Transcript of the Story

Adam and Eve lived in the garden and had a relationship with God. But then one day the snake came to Eve.  Now the snake was the craftiest of animals that God made. He said, “Did God really tell you that you can’t eat any of the fruit here in the garden?”  And Eve said, “No. That’s not true. He said that we could eat any of the fruit except for the fruit from the tree that gives the knowledge of good and evil. We can’t eat that. We can’t even touch it. Or we’ll die.” “You won’t die,” the snake said. “God doesn’t want you to eat that fruit because He knows that when you do, you’ll become like Him and you’ll know good and evil.”

Eve looked at the fruit and it looked so delicious and she wanted the knowledge it would give her, so she took some and ate it and then she gave some to Adam who was there with her and he also ate it. Immediately something changed inside of them and they realized they were naked so they took some leaves and sewed them together to make clothes.

Later that day, God entered the garden and Adam and Eve hid in the trees. God called out, “Adam, where are you?” And Adam said, “I’m here. I’m hiding because I’m naked and I’m afraid.” God said, “Who told you that you were naked? Did you eat the fruit that I told you not to?” Adam said, “The woman gave some to me and I ate it.”

God said to Eve, “What have you done?” And she said, “The snake tricked me and I ate some of the fruit.”

So God spoke to the snake and said, “Because of what you’ve done, you’re cursed and you’ll always crawl on your belly and the dirt. You and the woman and your descendants will always be enemies. And one day her descendants will crush your head and you will strike his heel.”

And to the woman God said, “You’re going to have great pain in childbirth and you will want to control your husband, but he will rule over you.”

And then to Adam, God said, “Because of what you’ve done, the ground is cursed and it’s going to grow thorns and weeds, and it’s only through hard work and sweat that you’ll be able to grow food from it.”

Then God made clothes for Adam and Eve from animal skins. And God said, I can’t let them eat from the tree of life and live forever. So He took them out of the garden and He put an angel at the entrance to the garden so that they could never return.
