Transcript of the Story
Now, when Jesus was about 30, God sent a prophet called John the Baptist who came to proclaim a message to the people and he was out in the wilderness by a river and people were coming to him and John said, “God’s kingdom is near, so turn away from your sins and turn back to God.”
And so John baptized the people by dipping them in the river to show that they had turned away from their sins and turned back to God.
Some religious leaders asked John, “Are you the Messiah?” But John said, “No, I’m not the one. I’m not even worthy to untie his sandals. I baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with God’s spirit.”
Now Jesus went to where John was speaking to the people by the Jordan River and he asked John to baptize him. But John said, “You should be baptizing me.” But Jesus said, “No, it is God’s will that you baptize me.” So John Baptized Jesus, and when Jesus came up out of the water, God’s spirit descended on him and it looked like a dove. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my son who I dearly love. And I’m pleased with him.”
