Transcript of the Story
It was the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy. God sent an angel named Gabriel to a young woman named Mary. Mary was engaged to a man who was a descendant of King David. The angel said to Mary, “Greetings. You have found favor with God.”
Mary was confused by the greeting.
The angel said, “Do not be afraid. You will bear a son and you will call his name Jesus and he will be the son of God. God will give him the kingdom of David and his reign will last forever.”
Mary asked, “How can this be for I’m a Virgin?”
The angel said, “This will happen by the power of God’s spirit and he will be the son of God. Your cousin, Elizabeth, whom everyone said could not have children, is now in the sixth month of her pregnancy, and this is because God’s word is true.”
Mary replied, “I am God’s servant. Let it be to me. Just as you have said.”
The angel left.
Then Mary praised God and said, “My heart rejoices in God’s salvation, for he has been merciful to me and to every generation. He has remembered the promises he made to Abraham and to all his descendants.”
